Similar games to International Rally Championship. Working in partnership with F1, for the first time ever, players will be able to get behind the wheel of a 2019 regulation car specifically designed in collaboration with F1’s technical team, headed up by Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds. The setup.exe file will probably crash with a 'Guru Meditation' error, so perform a manual install as follows:
1. Create a folder to install the game into, e.g. c:gamesirc
2. Go into the new folder
3. Copy from the CD-ROM the following files into these locations:
- the whole 'files' folder into the game folder, i.e. so you have c:gamesircfiles
- ral.exe into the game folder, i.e. so you have c:gamesircral.exe
- the whole 'files' folder into the game folder, i.e. so you have c:gamesircfiles
- ral.exe into the game folder, i.e. so you have c:gamesircral.exe
4. Create 2 more sub-folders in the game folder, called 'savedata' and 'var'
5. Go into the 'var' folder and create a new text document, in it put the following - and change the CD-ROM for the correct drive letter that you have the game in:
6. Rename this text document (you'll need to be able to see extensions in Windows to do this) to ral.zog
7. Go up one level to the main folder again. Now you need to create a sub-folder called 'savedata', so you have c:gamesircsavedata
8. Go into the new savedata folder and create the following folders:
c:gamesircsavedatacarsetup
c:gamesircsavedataghosts
c:gamesircsavedatahst
c:gamesircsavedatalevels
c:gamesircsavedatareplay
c:gamesircsavedatasavegame
c:gamesircsavedatacarsetup
c:gamesircsavedataghosts
c:gamesircsavedatahst
c:gamesircsavedatalevels
c:gamesircsavedatareplay
c:gamesircsavedatasavegame
8. Download the 4.80 patch from Patches Scrolls www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/2217
9. Copy the ral.exe file from the zip 4.80 patch into the game folder and overwrite the existing ral.exe
10. Right-click on ral.exe in the game folder and choose Win95 or Win98 compatibility mode
11. In order to get the full framerate, follow the guide on this site (either download their DDRAW.dll or use ACT): www.blitzbasic.com/Community/post.php?t ... st=1202630
12. Run ral.exe and hopefully the game will load!
13. The game may crash if you use the non-Direct3D 8bit graphics version, so go into the Options > Settings > Visual Display and ensure 16bit accelerated is chosen
14. Set everything else up as you wish and play away!
15. You can set up a shortcut to ral.exe if you wish.
NOTE: there is one issue: when you press Escape in-game, the menu will be invisible. So if you want to exit the current race, press up once, then press return, then up once again and return again!
NOTE 2: the original game did install some Registry strings, but the game seems to run fine without them

International Rally Championship features nine licensed rally cars for play on more than 30 tracks. Travel the world for day and night races across snow, mud, sand, and ice. Battle up to 20 rivals per track while viewing the action from either a chase or dashboard perspective. Your car will also experience real-time damage throughout each race, forcing you to make repairs and other changes to stay in the competition. Four play modes include Arcade, Championship, Practice, and Time Trials. Customize the game by selecting a manual or automatic transmission and one of four difficulty levels. Featured vehicles include the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru Impreza WRC, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Almera, Ford Escort, Renault Maxi Megane, Proton Wira, Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the Skoda Felicia. Also available is a track editor and Internet support for up to eight players.
International Rally Championship is an excellent sequel to Magnetic Fields/Europess' 1996 Rally Championship, and is the fourth entry in Magnetic Fields' long line of top-notch rally simulations that began in 1993 with Network Q Rac Rally (as an interesting side note, the company's expertise in racing games dated back to early 1990's with best-selling Supercars and Lotus series for Amiga/Atari ST computers).
Instead of being centred around the British round of the World Rally Championship, International Rally Championship, true to its name, lets you compete in 16 global locations, including many that are not part of the actual World Rally Championship - from the deserts of Egypt to the rainforests of Brazil. The number of cars available has been increased to nine, but for some strange reason the first-person behind-the-dashboard perspective is omitted in this version, forcing you to control the car from an outside view.

Similar to previous games, IRC offers a good selection of play modes: arcade, time trial, simulation (i.e. a full rally season in which you drive on each track), championship (i.e. race on various tracks on various levels of difficulty), and finally a custom mode that lets you customize various parameters of the race, from weather conditions to the number of participants. Multiplayer options are available: the IPX network session can support up to eight players, and you can play against a friend in serial mode. The game also includes an easy-to-use track editor that lets you recreate your favortie tracks or create original ones.
International Rally Championship is a solid entry in the excellent but highly underrated line of rally simulations. It is not as well-known as SEGA Rally, but it is both more realistic and more replayable. If you like rally games, this is one game you can't pass up. Highly recommended.
